Phone Stolen: What to Do in the First 5 Minutes
Act fast and in the right order: the minute-by-minute checklist to limit the damage.
It just happened. Don't panic: the very first minutes are what matter most. The faster you act — and in the right order — the less time the thief has to reach your accounts, photos and payments.
Here's exactly what to do, step by step. Ideally, read this before you ever need it and keep these reflexes in mind.
Every minute counts
While the line is active, the thief can receive your verification codes (2FA) by SMS and try to take over your accounts. The goal of the next 5 minutes: cut off access.

Lock and locate remotely
From another device or a computer, sign in to iCloud → Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android). Turn on Lost Mode: the screen locks and shows a message with a contact number.
Call your carrier
Have the line and SIM suspended immediately: this cuts calls, SMS (so 2FA codes) and data. Also ask them to block the IMEI to make the device unusable.
Change your key passwords
Start with your primary email (it's the key to all your accounts), then your bank and social media. Sign out of active sessions where possible.
Lock payments and alert your bank
Suspend Apple Pay / Google Pay (from iCloud or your Google account), watch for transactions and report the theft to your bank to secure your cards.
File a police report
With your IMEI (on the original box, the invoice, or by dialing *#06# on an identical phone). The report is needed for insurance and blocking. Never try to recover the device yourself.
The best theft is the one that fails
This whole procedure becomes pointless if the phone can't be snatched. The LOCKÜP™ bracelet tethers it to your wrist with a patented magnetic lock rated at 100+ lb of pull force. Grabbed in a flash? It stays attached to you.

FAQPhone theft: your questions
Will I be able to get my phone back?
Sometimes, thanks to Find My and Lost Mode. Share the location with the police along with your IMEI — but never go to recover the device yourself.
Can the thief access my accounts?
With a strong passcode, biometrics and two-factor that doesn't rely on SMS, it's very hard. That's why suspending the SIM quickly matters.
Should I erase the phone remotely?
If it holds sensitive data, yes. Note that erasing it cuts location tracking: lock and locate first, erase as a last resort.
How do I prevent it happening again?
Combine good settings (biometrics, Stolen Device Protection) with a physical tether like the LOCKÜP™ bracelet, so the phone simply can't be snatched.
The best emergency is the one you avoid.
Set your settings, then secure your phone. The LOCKÜP™ bracelet installs in seconds and goes everywhere with you.
